It is recommended that young students (age 6 and under) attend a trial class prior to registration to test attention span and interest.
About the Instructors
Sensei means instructor or teacher.
Sensei and Master Leslie Ryan started taking karate lessons as a teenager and has been learning and teaching Karate for 40 years. He is a fifth degree black belt Master rank.
Sensei Kirstie Rauch has trained under Sensei and Master Leslie Ryan since she started karate. She is a black belt and has placed in numerous karate tournaments. Belts and Rankings
Karate belts are achieved by mastering a certain level of karate technique and movements. They are not based on the length of time a student takes karate lessons. Promotions are held on an as needed basis and guest instructors are invited to witness the promotions. During promotion students are tested on those skills they most achieve before moving to their next belt.
Karate is a contact sport. The Dinwiddie Karate Club believes in karate for self defense only. We do not believe or teach the "kill" theory of karate and we discourage fighting. If any student is caught using karate moves on anyone outside of class they will be immediately dismissed from the school. All instructors do their best to insure the safety of all students.
The Dinwiddie Karate Club regularly attends local karate tournaments. The school has returned with numerous trophies.
